Shani Dev/Kokilavan is considered the god of justice in astrology. Being a judge, everyone is afraid of him because of his law of punishment. That is why this place was named Kokilavan. At the same time, Krishna blessed Shani Dev that he should sit there and whoever sees him at this place, Shani’s vision will not be curved, but his wish will be fulfilled.

According to experts, a perfect place for Shani Dev in Krishna’s Brajmandal in Uttar Pradesh is the famous Kokilavan near Kosikalan, Mathura. This place is about 8 km from Kosi and about 4 km from Nand village. This Shani temple is considered to be one of the oldest Shani temples in the world. According to another legend related to this temple, it is said that this temple, established from the time of Lord Krishna, got its place here after the boon of Kanha himself.
