Radha Kund Address and Google Map Location

One of the most sacred locations in Braj is the Radha Kund and Shyam Kund, which are located in the little hamlet of Mathura close to Govardhan Hill. The two holy water tanks next to one other are regarded as the holiest of all holy places because they contain pure, holy water that is also said to have magical characteristics that can aid in conception.

Radha Kund Town’s beginnings may be traced back to the time of Radha and Krishna, and it serves as a symbol of their love and joyous moments together. The majority of visitors to Radha Kund are pilgrims who come to express their reverence for Lord Krishna and his spouse Radha and to observe local customs by taking a midnight plunge in the pond. We can see many foreigners too taking a dip in the Radha Kund.

History of Radha Kund

After killing a powerful demon (who took the form of a bull), Radha ordered Lord Krishna to purify himself by taking a bath in each of the world’s sacred rivers. As a result, this fascinating tourist resort in Govardhan was born. When Lord Krishna heard that, he chuckled and stomped his heel on the ground to make a sizable pond. This pond is currently referred to as Shyama Kund. Lord Krishna requested his personified forms to appear as water in the pond so that they may fill the Kund with water.

Radha and her Sakhis made the decision to dig another Kund that would be even more lovely than Lord Krishna’s since they were enraged by his ability to make one. The Kund, now known as Radha Kund, was built close to the Shyama Kund. Lord Krishna let them use his pond’s water after observing that there was not a single drop of water present in the Kund. Radha, however, declined the offer and instead transported the water herself from Mansi-Ganga. Radha and her Sakhis were persuaded to drink the water from Lord Krishna’s Kund by the help of several holy sites. After bursting the banks of Shyama Kund, a large river of water rushed into Radha Kund after being persuaded by holy locations to do the same by Radharani and her Sakhis.

At midnight on the eighth day of the black moon of the Kartik month, this incident took place. After taking a bath in Radha Kund, Krishna declared that her Kund would become the most well-known of its sort in the entire globe.

Places to visit near Radha Kund:

1) Dwarkadhish temple: Lord Krishna is worshipped as Dwarkadheesh or Dwarkanath (King of Dwarka) alongside Goddess Radha in one of Mathura’s oldest and largest temples, which is located around 25 kilometres from Radha Kund. With permission from the Maharaja of Gwalior, the state treasurer of Gwalior built the temple’s current edifice in 1814. This majestic temple has expansive grounds and was built in the Rajasthani style.

2) Radha Damodar Temple: This historic temple is accessible and is situated in Vrindavan, around 23 kilometres from Radha Kund. Here, Radharani, Lord Krishna’s wife, and the figure of “Damodar” are worshipped. It is one of the seven Goswami temples in Vrindavan and was built by the “Madhav Gaudiya Sampradaya” in 1542 CE.

3) Kusum Sarovar: This holy water reservoir is located around two kilometres from Radha Kund, and a historical building serves as its backdrop. It is connected to the mythology built around Lord Krishna and Goddess Radharani. Many of the great kings of the area restored the natural reservoir and built numerous structures. The sandstone monument that surrounds the pond and was built by King Jawahar Singh of Bharatpur in honour of his parents will captivate you with its beauty.

4) Krishna Janmabhoomi Temple: As early as the third century BC, Krishna Janmabhumi, formerly known as Katra Keshavdev, had devotional significance. Although the Krishna Janmabhoomi temple has been the object of numerous invasions, it may have been built at the location as early as the first century. After being destroyed in 1670 by Mughal emperor Aurangzeb, the current temple complex was restored in 1982. This location is revered by all Vaishnavites and is thought to be the birthplace of Lord Krishna.

5) Banke Bihari Temple: Lord Krishna is worshipped at the Banke Bihari Temple, which is 25 kilometres from Radha Kund. “Banke” means bent at an angle, while “Bihari” or “Vihari” means enjoyer. It is said that this Lord Krishna idol, which is shown here in the Tribhanga position, is the identical idol that Swami Haridas Ji (1478–1573) received from the Lord Himself after giving his pupil the “Divya Darshan.” To feel the special aura around the majestic “Bihari Ji,” who is treated with love and care like a kid, one must visit this exquisite temple designed in the Rajasthani style.

Significance of taking a Dip in Radha Kund

A dip in Sri Radha Kund guarantees Prema-bhakti. It is Srimati Radharani’s liquid essence or form.

Many followers advise against taking a plunge here. In fact, after observing that they had started to play in Radha Kund, Srila Prabhupada advised devotees not to take a plunge here. The underlying message is that one shouldn’t enter Sri Radha Kund until they have a spontaneous understanding of its lofty status, bhav, or the desire to achieve Prema-bhakti. In order to accomplish Braj-Prema-bhakti, one must approach this Kund with complete earnestness, surrender, and desperation.

At Sri Radha Kund, all spiritual petitions are quickly answered. Genuineness is all that counts.

How one can reach Radha Kund

A private cab from one of the best automobile rental firms in Mathura-Vrindavan can take you there, or you can get an auto rickshaw from Mathura, which can take you there in about 30 minutes.

Radha Kund is 25 kilometres from Mathura Junction, the closest railway station, and 165 kilometres from Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi, the closest airport.

Safety instructions to keep in mind:

  • If you appear terrified or are carrying any food, monkeys may bother you. Don’t face them directly and proceed with confidence. Sometimes they might pass very near the body without waking you up. Don’t be alarmed.
  • There would be young kids requesting money. If Sriji moves you, you can offer them 5 or 10 rupees. With this money, these tiny Vrajvasi kids can only buy samosas or toffee. However, if there are numerous kids around, just sit still despite their repeated nagging and prodding. It’s wonderful to help the Brajavasis, and if Srimati Radharani has given you the means, consider giving some Laxmi (cash) to the widows there as well.
  • You would be asked to perform puja here by the local pandits. If Sriji inspires you from within, you should donate to the Radha Kund vasis. Even if the Vrajvasis are precious to the Lord, if you go there only for bhajan, just ignore them, fold your hands, and keep chanting. They won’t bother you as they work. Do a modest puja if you are going with family, as they are Brajvasis, and ask them for permission to approach vraja-prema-bhakti. Their favour greatly contributes to spiritual growth.

Conclusion:

Govardhan contains the settlement of Radha Kund. It is regarded as the highest location in all of creation from a spiritual standpoint and is identical to Srimati Radharani, the pleasure potency of the Supreme Personality of Godhead Sri Krishna.
